Wintering in Thailand: How to Send Flowers to Someone in Phuket, Bangkok or Pattaya

High season in Phuket and Pattaya runs from mid-November to the end of March: dry, calm seas, +28…+32 °C by day. Bangkok is at its most comfortable — +30 without May's exhausting humidity. That's why three waves of visitors overlap:

• Long-stayers for 3–5 months. Families with children, remote workers, retirees. They live in villas and condos, kids attend international schools, parents work on home-office hours. In Phuket that's Rawai, Nai Harn, Chalong, Bang Tao, Laguna and Kamala; in Pattaya — Pratumnak, Jomtien, Wongamat and Naklua; in Bangkok — Sukhumvit from Asok to Thonglor and Ekkamai, Ari, Sathorn.
• Holiday tourists for 2–3 weeks. Peak from 25 December to 10 January: hotels in Patong, Karon and Kata, beach clubs in Bang Tao, Central Pattaya. Phuket airport lands a record number of flights and hotel rates double.
• Year-round expats. Business owners, teachers, IT professionals. They're congratulated just like the long-stayers — only the addresses are permanent.

For flower delivery this means one thing: December to March is our busiest stretch, and the closer to 31 December, 14 February and 8 March, the more important it is to order early.

Why Flowers Mean So Much to People Wintering Abroad

Someone who has left for the winter misses two things: their people and the feeling of "a celebration like at home". The tropics are beautiful in December, but there's no festive mood at +30 — the trees are plastic, there's no snow, and mum and grandma are far away. The Thai Address: Why "the Villa by the Beach" Doesn't Work

The main challenge of delivery in Thailand is addresses. The official format — house number / moo (village) / soi (lane) / road / tambon / amphoe — makes sense to locals but not to visitors. Streets are often unnamed, house numbers follow the order of construction, and Google Maps may lead to the neighbouring villa. Here's what a courier really needs:

1. The name of the complex or villa. "Anchan Lagoon villa, house 12", "The Base Downtown Phuket condo, tower B", "Laguna Village". For hotels — the full name and room number.
2. The area and a nearby landmark. "Rawai, by the pier", "Bang Tao, behind Boat Avenue", "Pratumnak, soi 5", "Sukhumvit soi 31 (Phrom Phong)".
3. The recipient's phone number (Thai, or international with WhatsApp). The courier calls on approach — that's normal in Thailand, and without a call a gated villa stays inaccessible.
4. A map pin, if the recipient can send one. Even an approximate one speeds things up a lot.

Three Cities — Three Logistics

Phuket: an Island of Villas and Beaches

Phuket isn't a city but a 50-km island, and delivery time depends on geography. The south (Rawai, Nai Harn, Chalong, Phuket Town) and west (Patong, Karon, Kata) — 1.5–3 hours. The north (Bang Tao, Laguna, Surin, Kamala, Nai Yang by the airport) — 2–4 hours: in season the road over Patong Hill and through Cherngtalay sits in traffic. Bangkok: Towers, Concierges and Traffic

Bangkok is a megacity where long-stayers live in the condo towers of Sukhumvit, Sathorn and Ari. The address is simpler here (condo name + soi), and the main obstacle is traffic: from 16:00 to 20:00 a trip along Sukhumvit can take an hour. So the best slots are 10:00–15:00. Pattaya: Compact and Fast

Pattaya is the simplest of the three: 15 km of coast, everything within an hour. Long-stayers live in the condos of Pratumnak, Jomtien and Wongamat; tourists in the hotels of Central and Northern Pattaya. What Flowers to Choose for a Tropical Climate

Winter in Thailand means +30 °C and 60–70 % humidity. A bouquet that lasts beautifully in a Moscow flat can give up in two days here if the climate isn't taken into account. What we recommend:

• Dense rose varieties — Freedom, Explorer, Ecuadorian large-headed. They hold 7–10 days in an air-conditioned room.
• Orchids — the local pride: phalaenopsis, dendrobium, vanda. They last two to three weeks, don't mind humidity and cost less than in Europe.
• Hydrangeas and peonies — imported, pricier, but available: keep them in air conditioning and change the water daily.
• Tropical arrangements — heliconias, anthuriums, ginger, proteas. Long-lasting, they look "Thai" and don't fade on the terrace.
• Box arrangements on floral foam — ideal for villas without vases and for hotels: nothing to hunt for.

What to avoid: delicate garden roses and ranunculus for an open terrace, tulips (they open within a day in the tropics), bouquets left without water all day. And ask the recipient not to leave the flowers in the sun by the pool — a photo is fine, but the bouquet should live indoors.

Key Dates of the Thai Winter Season

• 25 December — 2 January. The peak. Hotels are full, roads in Patong and Central Pattaya close for fireworks, couriers start early. Order by 28 December and set delivery for daytime.

Mind the time difference: Thailand is 4 hours ahead of Moscow, 6 ahead of Central Europe, 7 ahead of London. A "this evening" order from Europe needs to be placed in the morning your time.
