Flower Delivery to Hotels and Airbnb Flats in Paris: Digicode, Floor, Concierge — What the Courier Needs

In short: in Paris a bouquet is almost never handed over "at the entrance". The street door is locked with a digicode (keypad), behind it there is often a second door or an interphone, and the flat is described not by a number but by a line like "bât. B, 3e étage, porte gauche". For delivery to an Airbnb flat we need: the exact address with "bis/ter", the door code (or the host's contact who will give it), the building, the floor in French counting, which door on the landing and the phone of whoever will open. For a hotel — only the name, the address and the guest's name as on the booking: reception accepts by name, no room number needed. The courier never leaves flowers on a staircase, in a boîte à clés or on the street — they are handed over in person or to the desk. You choose a bouquet in the Paris catalog, pay in euros, receive a photo before hand-over; confirmed in the morning, Paris time, usually the same day.
Districts where hotel and flat orders are most common: Champs-Élysées, Louvre, Le Marais, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Montmartre. Paying from abroad is covered in how to order flowers from another country.
Why Paris Works Differently
In Lisbon or Casablanca the courier rings the intercom and walks up. In Paris the way to a flat door is longer: a heavy porte-cochère (the former carriage gate) with a code, then a vestibule and a second glass door — sometimes with its own code or a Vigik badge — then an inner courtyard with two or three buildings, and only then the staircase. In Haussmann buildings the lift is either tiny or absent: the sixth floor means six flights on foot. So "address and name" is not enough for a Paris flat — the courier needs instructions that take them to the right door without calling the sender in another time zone.
Digicode and Interphone: Why We Need the Code Before the Courier Leaves
A digicode is the keypad lock on the street door; the code is 4–5 digits plus a letter (A or B), something like "24A17". An interphone is the panel with residents' surnames or flat numbers. In most Paris buildings the interphone works during the day, while at night (usually from 20:00–22:00 to 7:00–8:00) the door opens by code only — the panel is switched off. This matters for evening deliveries: if the bouquet is for dinner at 21:00 and there is no code, the courier stays on the pavement.
Two more details. The interphone shows the owner's or the management company's name, not the Airbnb guest's — "Anna Petrova" is not on the list. And codes change: Airbnb hosts usually send the current code in the platform chat on arrival day or the evening before. So we ask for the code itself, or the phone of the person who will open (guest or host), or both.
How to Read a Paris Address: bis, bâtiment, escalier, étage, porte
A courier-ready Paris address line looks like this: 12 bis rue de Turenne, 75003 — bât. B, fond de cour, esc. 2, 3e étage, porte face. Decoded:
- 12 bis / 12 ter — a separate building next to No. 12, with its own door and its own code. Without "bis" the courier ends up at the neighbours'.
- 75003 — the postcode is the arrondissement (the 3rd). It is essential: rue Saint-Honoré in the 1st and rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in the 8th are different streets, and a "rue de la Paix" in the suburbs is not the one by the Opéra.
- bât. A / B / C, fond de cour — the building; "fond de cour" means at the back of the courtyard, separate entrance.
- esc. 1 / 2 — the staircase (large buildings have several, each serving its own flats).
- 3e étage — the floor in French counting (see below).
- porte gauche / droite / face — which door on the landing: left, right or opposite the stairs. Paris flat doors often have no numbers.
If the Airbnb booking does not show this line, it is almost always in the host's check-in instructions. Forward them to us in full — we will pick out what matters.
Floors in French: "3e étage" Is the Fourth Floor
In France the ground floor is the rez-de-chaussée (RDC), and the first floor is the one above it. "3e étage" for an American or Russian guest is the fourth floor. Between the RDC and the 1st there is sometimes an entresol (mezzanine). Give us the floor exactly as the host wrote it, without converting, and tell us whether there is a lift (ascenseur). For the 'Paris Flower Room' or 201 roses a sixth floor without a lift is a separate conversation about timing and how to carry it up — we will warn you in advance.
Airbnb in Paris: Host, Self Check-in and the Gardienne
Most Paris Airbnbs run on self check-in: keys sit in a code box (boîte à clés) on the wall by the entrance or with the concierge of a nearby shop, and the host never appears in person. Three consequences for flowers:
- Before the guest arrives, the flat is empty. The courier does not enter a flat without the recipient and does not put a bouquet in the key box. "Flowers waiting in the flat on arrival" is possible only if the host or their co-host personally meets the courier and places the bouquet inside — this has to be agreed with them in advance, and we will help you word the request in French.
- Someone has to open. Most often the guest: we agree a window with them and call 15 minutes ahead. For a surprise without a call, the sender gives us the door code and a time when the guest is definitely home, and we ring from the landing.
- The gardienne. Older buildings in the 6th–8th arrondissements and Saint-Germain still have a concierge (loge on the ground floor). She may accept a bouquet for a resident but is not obliged to, and for an Airbnb guest she is usually not informed — do not count on her without an arrangement.
Example: An Airbnb in Le Marais, a Birthday Surprise
Husband in Dubai, wife and a friend for a week in an Airbnb in Le Marais — rue des Rosiers, 4th arrondissement. He forwards the host's instructions: "Code 36B21, bât. A, 2e étage, porte droite, pas d'ascenseur", and says they are home in the morning until 11:00. We give a 9:30–10:30 window and the price, he pays €260 for 'Hydrangea by the Tower'. At 9:50 the courier keys in the code, climbs two flights, rings the right-hand door — a photo of the wrapped bouquet at the door and a "handed over in person" confirmation reach Dubai within a minute. Rue des Rosiers is pedestrian and crowded at weekends — we factor that in and do not promise "exactly 10:00".
Palace Hotels of the Champs-Élysées and the Louvre: The Concierge Decides
Four Seasons George V, Plaza Athénée, Le Bristol, La Réserve on the Champs-Élysées; Ritz, Le Meurice, Cheval Blanc, Mandarin Oriental by the Louvre — Palace-category hotels. Here outside deliveries go through the concierge, not the front desk: we call ahead, give the guest's name and ask whether the hotel accepts flowers from outside florists, whether they take them to the room, and which window and entrance — service or main — the courier should use. Palace hotels may have in-house florists and their own rules — they are entitled to ask that the bouquet be passed via the concierge rather than placed in the room by us; we do not promise "in the room on arrival" until the hotel confirms. We have no partnerships with hotels, which is why we describe the terms as they are.
Example. A couple from Moscow checks into Le Meurice. A friend orders the 'Mansfield Pink Box' €720 — a box needs no vase, which is convenient in a hotel. The concierge confirms: flowers for guests are accepted by name and taken to the room while the guests are out. The courier arrives by 15:00 — standard check-in time — and the photo goes to the sender.
Boutique Hotels of Le Marais, Saint-Germain and Montmartre: Small Desk, Own Hours
Pavillon de la Reine and Hôtel Caron de Beaumarchais in Le Marais; Hôtel Lutetia, Relais Christine and L'Hôtel in Saint-Germain-des-Prés; Terrass', Maison Souquet and Hôtel Particulier Montmartre in Montmartre. The Lutetia has a full concierge service; a 20-room hotel may have one person at the desk who steps away at lunchtime. We call ahead and ask who is on duty in the delivery window, whether they accept flowers for a guest and whether they place them in the room. Montmartre adds terrain: Hôtel Particulier Montmartre is reached through a gated lane with a code, Terrass' sits on the steep rue Joseph-de-Maistre where the courier cannot park; we do not carry bouquets onto the Sacré-Cœur steps or Place du Tertre — the hand-over happens at the hotel.
Aparthotels and Résidences: Between a Hotel and a Flat
Citadines, Adagio and other aparthotels around the Louvre, the Opéra and in the 15th arrondissement work like a hotel: there is a reception that accepts by guest name, but desk hours are shorter and entry after 22:00 is by code. The hotel name and guest name are enough, but we align the delivery window with the desk hours.
What the Courier Never Does — and Why
- Never leaves the bouquet on the landing, at the door or in the courtyard. Flowers start at €115, and many courtyards are walk-through.
- Never puts it in a boîte à clés or hands it to "a neighbour".
- Never hands over on the street by a café without a meeting — we do not deliver to bridges, the Seine quays or the Trocadéro esplanade; a bouquet for photos by the Tower is received beforehand at the hotel or flat.
- Never enters a flat alone, even if the host has sent the code.
If the guest is not there in the agreed window, we call them and you, wait a reasonable time and move to the next window the same day — the bouquet stays cool with the florist, not on a windowsill in a stranger's hallway.
Can It Be Delivered to a Hotel or Flat on the Same Day?
Usually yes — when the order is confirmed in the morning, Paris time, the flowers are available and the recipient (or reception) is reachable in the agreed window. For an Airbnb surprise, add an hour or two of margin for the code and the door. We give the window before payment; there is no round-the-clock service, and 101 roses or more and boxes of 200+ stems need 1–2 days. Check-in at most Paris hotels is 15:00 and check-out 11:00–12:00: a bouquet "on arrival" is delivered after 15:00, "for departure" the evening before.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if the Airbnb host only sends the code on arrival day? Forward it to us as soon as you have it — until then we agree the window and keep the bouquet with the florist. If there is no code when the courier leaves, the courier calls the guest from the street on the number you gave.
Do I need the hotel room number? No — reception and the concierge find the guest by the name on the booking.
Can the flowers be placed in the flat before the guest arrives? Only if the host or co-host personally meets the courier and places the bouquet inside. We do not enter flats on our own and do not leave flowers in key boxes.
What does "3e étage sans ascenseur" mean? Fourth floor in American counting, no lift. The courier will climb; for large arrangements we discuss the timing in advance.
Do you deliver to Neuilly, Boulogne, La Défense, Versailles and airport hotels? On request — send the address and we will reply on timing and price before payment.
How do I know the bouquet was handed over? A photo of the finished bouquet before the courier leaves, a photo at the door or on the desk and a hand-over confirmation right after.
