I Want to Order Flowers in Paris — How Do I Do It: Step by Step, with Arrondissements, Paris Time, French Etiquette and Prices

In short: you can order flowers to Paris from any country with a single message — but for the bouquet to actually reach the recipient's hands you need seven things: the exact address with the arrondissement (the postcode 75001–75020 is the arrondissement), the type of place — hotel, flat with a door code or restaurant — the recipient's name in Latin letters, a window in Paris time (Paris is 1–2 hours behind Moscow and 6 ahead of New York), an understanding of where the courier does NOT deliver (the Eiffel Tower, Trocadéro, bridges, quays — no address there), the card text — French is fine — and payment in euros. Below is a step-by-step guide specifically for Paris: what Paris florists have by season, which flowers are not given here, when the city is closed, what a bouquet costs and how to propose by the Tower with the bouquet in your hands on time. Catalog — flowers in Paris, from €115.

Districts: Champs-Élysées, Louvre, Le Marais, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Montmartre. Digicodes, floors and Airbnb — a separate article. Our other French city — Nice.

Step by Step: How to Order Flowers in Paris from Another Country

  1. Define the place. A hotel (name + guest name), a flat (address with arrondissement, code, floor — see the digicode article), a restaurant (name, reservation time, name), an office (company, floor, hours). Open spaces — squares, bridges, parks — are not on this list: they have no address.
  2. Name the occasion and budget — or simply "birthday, about €200". The consultant proposes 2–3 bouquets with photos from what the Paris florist has this week.
  3. Choose a window in Paris time. Paris is UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer: two hours behind Moscow in winter and one in summer, three hours behind Dubai, six ahead of New York. Write "by 18:00 Paris time", not "in the evening".
  4. Write the card — in Russian, English or French; ready-made phrases are below.
  5. Pay in euros — any card, Apple/Google Pay, transfer, cryptocurrency. The recipient pays nothing.
  6. Receive a photo of the bouquet before the courier leaves — and change it if something is off.
  7. Receive the hand-over confirmation — a photo at the door or at reception and a "delivered" message.

A Paris Address: the Arrondissement Is the Postcode

Paris is divided into 20 arrondissements, and the postcode is the arrondissement: 75001 is the 1st (Louvre), 75004 the 4th (Le Marais), 75006 the 6th (Saint-Germain), 75008 the 8th (Champs-Élysées), 75018 the 18th (Montmartre). Without the postcode an address is ambiguous: rue Saint-Honoré in the 1st and rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in the 8th are different streets, and there is an "avenue Victor Hugo" both in Paris and in neighbouring Boulogne-Billancourt. "12 bis" is a separate building next to No. 12. We deliver to all 20 arrondissements; Neuilly, Boulogne, La Défense, Versailles and the airports — on request.

What Paris Florists Have — by Season

Paris florists buy at Rungis — the world's largest wholesale market south of the city, where flowers arrive from the Netherlands and the south of France every night. So the basics — roses, garden roses, hydrangea, ranunculus, lisianthus, eucalyptus — are always there. Seasonal: tulips February–April, lilac in April, peonies May–June, lavender and sunflowers July–August, dahlias August–October, ranunculus and anemones November–March, amaryllis and fir in December. Peonies in October or lilac in July — we don't promise; the florist offers a substitute.

French Flower Etiquette: What Is Not Given in Paris

  • Chrysanthemums are the flowers of Toussaint (1 November), taken to cemeteries. A chrysanthemum bouquet as a gift to a Parisienne is awkward. If the recipient is French, we leave them out.
  • Lily of the valley — only on 1 May. On Labour Day all of France gives a sprig of muguet for luck; on other days it is hardly available.
  • 8 March is not a gift day in France. A Parisienne does not expect it; a Russian-speaking recipient does. We ask who the recipient is.
  • Fête des Mères is neither 8 March nor the second Sunday of May but the last Sunday of May (or the first of June if it coincides with Pentecost). Father's Day is the third Sunday of June.
  • Odd or even stem counts don't matter in France — but they do for a Russian-speaking recipient: we check and make it odd.
  • Yellow flowers were traditionally linked to infidelity in France — a joke today, but for a first date we choose something else.

When Paris Is Closed: Sundays, August, Strikes

Flower shops open on Sunday morning and close on Monday; many restaurants close on Sunday and Monday, and in August there is the fermeture annuelle for two or three weeks. On 1 May and 25 December the city almost stops. On the first Sunday of the month Le Marais and the Champs-Élysées go pedestrian under Paris Respire — the courier walks from the nearest point. Transport strikes (grèves) happen several times a year — they barely affect delivery, the courier is on a scooter, but the window may shift by half an hour; we warn you.

Where a Bouquet Cannot Be Delivered in Paris — and How to Propose by the Tower

The Eiffel Tower, the Trocadéro esplanade, the Champ de Mars, Pont Alexandre III and the Pont des Arts, the Seine quays, the Sacré-Cœur steps, the Tuileries and the Luxembourg Garden — none has an address, and no one can wait there with a car for the recipient. So for a proposal we work differently: the bouquet arrives in advance at your hotel or flat — by 17:00 for sunset, by 20:00 for the Tower's lights, which sparkle for the first five minutes of every hour after dark. The photographer, if there is one, meets you already holding the bouquet. For a surprise without your involvement, the bouquet waits at reception for your return from the walk. That is how 'Juliet' €1,000 and the 'Mansfield Pink Box' €720 work — a box needs no vase in a hotel.

How Much Flower Delivery in Paris Costs

Prices in the Paris catalog are in euros from photos of real bouquets: compact €115–300 ('Marais Dawn' €115, 'Tuileries Tulips' €140, 'Hydrangea by the Tower' €260, 'White Palais-Royal' €240), medium €320–720 ('Spring Melody' €320, '101 Red Roses' €700, 'Mansfield Pink Box' €720), premium €800–11,200 ('101 White Roses' €800, 'Juliet' €1,000, '201 White Roses' €2,000, 'LOVE YOU in Roses' €8,000, 'Paris Flower Room' €11,200). Delivery to the 20 arrondissements is included; nothing is paid on hand-over. Paris is an expensive flower market: a €115 bouquet here means 7–9 stems with greenery, not an armful.

What to Write on the Card in French

You write the text, we print it or write by hand. If you want French: Joyeux anniversaire — happy birthday; Je t'aime — I love you; Je pense à toi — thinking of you; Félicitations — congratulations; Avec tout mon amour — with all my love; Bon rétablissement — get well soon; Merci pour tout — thank you for everything; Pardonne-moi — forgive me. For a surprise we leave the sender's name off.

Will It Be Delivered Today?

Usually yes — if the order is confirmed in the morning, Paris time, the florist has the flowers and the recipient or reception is reachable in the agreed window. We give the window before payment; there is no round-the-clock service. For 101 roses and boxes of 200+ stems — 1–2 days; the 'Paris Flower Room' — by separate arrangement. To the suburbs — on request and with extra time.

Example 1: From Dubai — a Wife's Birthday at a Hotel by the Louvre

Husband in Dubai, wife with a friend at a hotel in the 1st arrondissement. He sends the hotel name and the Latin-letter name and asks for "breakfast time". We check with the concierge: flowers accepted, taken to the room. At 9:30 Paris time 'Tuileries Tulips' €140 with a card Joyeux anniversaire, mon amour are in the room; the photo goes to Dubai, where it is already 12:30.

Example 2: From Moscow — a Proposal at the Trocadéro

He is flying to Paris himself and wants a bouquet by the Tower at 21:00. We explain: we don't deliver to the Trocadéro, but we bring the bouquet to his hotel in the 16th by 19:30 — he picks it up on the way, and the lights come on at exactly 21:00. 'Juliet' €1,000, paid by transfer in euros, the bouquet photo at 18:00 while he is still in the shower.

What the Courier Never Does in Paris

  • Never goes to the Tower, the bridges, the quays or the parks — you receive the bouquet in advance at an address.
  • Never leaves the bouquet on the landing, at the door or in a boîte à clés.
  • Never enters a flat without the recipient or the host.
  • Never names the sender if it is a surprise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I order flowers to Paris if I'm not in Paris myself? Yes — that is how most orders arrive. We need the address or hotel, the recipient's name and a window in Paris time; we do the rest.

What is the postcode for a given arrondissement? 750 + the arrondissement number: 75001 is the 1st, 75008 the 8th, 75018 the 18th. The postcode is in any booking.

Can a bouquet be delivered to the Eiffel Tower? No — there is no address there. We bring the bouquet in advance to the hotel or flat, and you arrive at the Tower already holding it.

Which flowers should not be given to a Frenchwoman? Chrysanthemums (the cemetery flowers of Toussaint) and lily of the valley outside 1 May; be careful with yellow.

Do you deliver on Sundays and in August? Yes — the florist works; the recipient's restaurants and shops may be closed, which we factor in when choosing the place.

Can I pay with a Russian card? No — Russian cards do not work abroad; transfer and cryptocurrency are available, see the payment article.

Do you deliver to Versailles, La Défense and the airports? On request — send the address and we reply on timing and price before payment.
