How Flower Delivery Works in the Parte Vieja
The Parte Vieja is San Sebastián's old town, squeezed between the port, Mount Urgull and the Boulevard: two dozen streets rebuilt after the fire of 1813, with the densest concentration of pintxo bars on the planet. Cars don't come in except for morning deliveries, so our courier leaves the scooter on the Boulevard or by La Bretxa market and walks along Calle Mayor, 31 de Agosto or Fermín Calbetón — we allow 10–15 minutes for that, and the whole delivery takes 2–3 hours from photo approval. Orders before 15:00 are delivered the same day; on Friday and Saturday evenings, when the streets fill up for the "txikiteo", the courier takes Calle Puerto along the harbour where it's quieter.
Hotels and Pensiones of the Old Town
The Parte Vieja has few hotels, but special ones: Hotel Parma on the corner of the Boulevard and the port with views of Zurriola, Lasala Plaza Hotel in a former bank on Plaza Lasala with a rooftop pool, the family-run Pensión Amaiur and Pensión Kursaal on 31 de Agosto and Peña y Goñi, Casa Nicolasa on Aldamar. We hand the bouquet to reception under the guest's name as on the booking; at pensiones without a 24-hour desk we agree a time with the owner — they love helping with surprises.
Apartments above the Pintxo Bars
Most Parte Vieja addresses are flats in four- and five-storey buildings without lifts, with bilingual street names (Abuztuaren 31 kalea = 31 de Agosto) and intercoms listing surnames. Give us the street, number, floor and door in the Basque format "3º izda" (third floor, left door), the surname and a phone. The courier calls 15–20 minutes ahead; if the recipient is at the bar downstairs we meet at the entrance. Holiday apartments (Feelfree, Friendly Rentals) use keypad locks — we hand over in person or as agreed with the manager, never at the door.
Pintxo Bars, Restaurants and the Port
This is the district where flowers are ordered "with a pintxo": a bouquet to the counter at Ganbara, Borda Berri, La Cuchara de San Telmo, Bar Néstor, Txepetxa, Gandarias or Atari by the basilica — the courier hands it over in person at an agreed time, because tables are scarce. For a table with a reservation — at Kokotxa (Michelin star, Calle Campanario), Casa Urola, Bodegón Alejandro or La Viña of cheesecake fame — we hand it to the manager 20–30 minutes ahead. At the port (the Muelle) — the La Rampa, Igeldo and Sebastián restaurants, the Aquarium and the boat to Santa Clara: we meet departures with a bouquet on the quay.
What to See — and Where to Give Flowers
Plaza de la Constitución with its numbered balconies (once a bullring), the Santa María del Coro basilica, the San Vicente church, the San Telmo museum in a Dominican convent, La Bretxa market and the climb up Urgull to the Mota castle and the statue of Christ with the best view of the bay. A bouquet at the Urgull viewpoint is by arrangement: the courier walks up for 20 minutes. On 20 January the whole Tamborrada starts here at midnight — we deliver during the day; at night the streets belong to the drummers.
